B&O BICYCLE TOUR SPONSORED BY HENDRICKS REGIONAL HEALTH
We have a new date and a new venue ~ September 19, 2020 at Williams Park in Brownsburg! The 28th Annual B&O Bicycle Tour will showcase portions of the B&O Trail as well as scenic countryside. You can choose from 12-, 25- or 50- mile loops. After the ride, stick around for lunch and some music.
COVID ~ As part of statewide directives, we have prepared a COVID plan for our event and submitted it to the Hendricks County Health Department. The safety of riders and our volunteers is paramount. We encourage everyone to use common sense and do NOT attend if you are feeling sick or have been exposed to anybody who is. Masks are required during check-in, while gathering at SAG stops and picking up your grab-n-go lunch. Masks are not required while riding your bicycle but social distancing is. Click HERE to view a copy of our complete COVID plan.
WHERE ~ After three years we are returning to the beautiful Williams Park in Brownsburg, Indiana. Due to our necessary rescheduling of this event we ran into an unfortunate conflict with Lucas Oil Raceway's calendar. They have been a great partner and we hope to be back there next year.
START TIME ~ Sign-in begins at 7:30 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2020. One key change is that there will be no mass start of riders at specified times. All riders can depart once they have completed their check-in, prepped their bikes and donned a helmet! Please note that our event is rain or shine. No refunds are given due to the weather.
WHAT’S FOR LUNCH ~ Listen to music as you enjoy a fantastic BBQ lunch catered by Pit Stop Barbecue & Grill restaurant immediately after the ride. Finish off your lunch with a frozen treat from Schwan’s Frozen Foods, free to all participants. Thank you to Aqua Systems for donating water and Piazza Produce for the fruit.
SEE YOURSELF ON INSTAGRAM ~ During the ride, take pictures and post them on Instagram, #bobikeride. We hope to show pictures on a continuous loop throughout the day back at the starting venue. You can enjoy them as you eat lunch and listen to the music.
DONATIONS ~ Consider giving a donation to the B&O Trail in addition to your ride entry fee. We are diligently working to extend the trail to both the east and west and just submitted an application to Indiana’s Next Level Trails Grant program. While that grant has been put on hold, we now need local funds more than ever to help expand the trail. HCTDA is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so your donation is tax deductible.
T-SHIRTS ~ Souvenir T-shirts are available to pre-registered riders for an extra cost. Ability to purchase a t-shirt online will end at midnight on September 12. A limited number of shirts will be available for purchase the day of the ride.
SPECIAL FEATURES OF RIDE ~ SAG vehicles will be roving the routes to assist with minor mechanical problems or fatigue. Routes are marked on the roads, but route maps are provided as a backup. Mechanics from BOI will be on hand to answer mechanical questions and assist riders with pre-ride inspections. The first 300 riders to check-in will receive a souvenir water bottle. Riders will enjoy music as they eat a BBQ lunch from Pit Stop Barbecue & Grill (10:30 AM to 3:00 PM) including a frozen treat from Schwan’s Foods. Lunch is included with registration.
ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS (click each route name for a downloadable GPS map from Ride With GPS)
12 miles — Ideal for beginning cyclists and families: an easy-going, flat ride; you will travel a few miles on the B&O Trail. After turning around at the Green Street trail head, it returns via the same route. There is a refreshment stop at the Rotary shelter about halfway through the ride.
25 miles — You will ride a few miles on the B&O Trail. You will then ride on county roads to the SAG stop at Maplewood. Enjoy refreshments and music before your return trip through the picturesque Hendricks County countryside. You re-enter the trail at the same spot you exited and return to Williams Park for lunch.
50 miles — This route starts out the same as the 25-miler. After leaving the Maplewood SAG stop, continue west through scenic farmland to the SAG stop at Perillo’s Pizzeria in North Salem. Your loop takes you back to the Maplewood SAG for a 2nd visit, then returns you to Williams Park for lunch via the B&O Trail.
PARKING
Ample parking will be available at Williams Park. As always, watch for signs and parking attendants.
